Plenty Canada also recognizes that development takes place at the grass-roots and that communities have much to contribute to their own development in terms of knowledge skills and determination.
Plenty Canada therefore provides educational, financial and other support for local community organizations to emerge, which can identify priorities and strategies for small scale development that is both economically and environmentally sustainable.
Plenty Canada staff and board members comprise a diverse group of professionals who understand the relationship between the people and the land and who have an established record on successful development work for more than 30 years.

Our Activities
Community Development Assistance in the development of existing and emerging community village organizations through strategic training, financial support, facilities development and equipment selection.
Sharing of Indigenous Knowledge Assistance in the preservation and promotion of traditional indigenous knowledge systems to protect the bio-diversity of Mother Earth, promote inclusive contemporary management and development of forestry, aquatic, agricultural, social and cultural resources for the good of all future generations who share the land.
Potable Water Systems Providing support in establishing potable, gravity-fed water systems and the training of local village committees to operate and maintain them.
Ecology-Forestry Promoting traditional forestry and ecological practices that protect bio-diversity, ethno-cultural values, water sources and support community vitality while conserving the productive capacity of the land and forests.
Agriculture and Food Production Promoting self-reliance in food production, particularly from traditional and local sources, utilizing traditional knowledge integrated into contemporary methods in agriculture, fishing and agro-forestry including hunting and gathering.
Appropriate Technology Demonstrating and assisting communities with the development of technologies that minimize impacts on the earths capacity to support life while advancing a healthy lifestyle. Solar hot water, photovoltaics, wind charging systems, gravity fed water systems, buildings that conserve energy are some of the examples Plenty Canada’s appropriate technology projects.
Nutrition and Health Increasing public awareness of local food sources and production methods. Supporting nutritional education, promoting the installation of improved sanitation facilities and encouraging improved personal and community health practices supporting the protection and use of traditional medicinal plants and other sources.
Income Generation Providing support through skill training in business management, seed capital and revolving credit to establish small and medium scale enterprises.
Development Education Promoting Canadian awareness of rural environmental and community development programs in Africa, Asia, and the Americas including Canada.
